[Sunbeam Talbot Email List] 54 Alpine - Bracket Function?

Hi Everyone

Sorry to be a few weeks behind on this one but the black brackets from Jo’s car could have held the radio speaker. From memory this sat on the firewall in the middle of the car, quite away back and was quite a big wooden box. It’s a long time since I have seen one!

Cheers,

Derek

Is there any chance that these brackets held a radio ?

Hi Jo the Blue brackets you have arrowed are original brackets the lower ones held the original heater up, and the upper ones are for the dash board cubby box to screw to, on the back of the fibre cubby box there are two metal wings s (brackets) the holes in them may be slotted. the box is help up with two screws through the brackets into those top blue mounts, I am sure this set up maybe in the Parts book, Mal Clark

I was definitely NOT expecting this answer! It's great news- less to worry about! The consensus is that the brackets are not original equipment.

I would, however, love to find out who the fabricator was....he / she did an AWESOME job. There is nothing to indicate that it is not OE (original equipment).

So that I don't make any assumptions...I get that the black painted bracket (see attached pic) is not original. Does this also mean that the brackets attached to the inside of my cowl / firewall are also not original equipment?

Hi again Jo where you are holding the bracket up under the bulkhead the larger bottom fitment (2) of ,is for the original Smiths heater assume your car didn’t have this heater maybe someone has fabricated those black brackets for an aftermarket heater or maybe something else under the dash area The brackets are not original. Well, I've searched through my thousands of teardown pics, the service manual and parts book with no luck. I know the location of the bracket shown in the attached pic (yes, I know there are 2, but just held up one in place for the pic!). However, I haven't been able to identify the actual function of the bracket.

Also...can anyone tell me the original routing of the speedometer cable through the firewall / cowl?

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Jo
