Hi again Alf,Bob reminded me the early Talbot engine of 1900cc also has the same crank, I am in the throws of completing the rebuild on this white Alpine which had the mk2 engine (1900cc) after a Sonic testing of the bores they were found to be around 12mm thick allowing and over bore to the standard 2267cc correct for this car, I think and overbore of about 350thou was required the we used standard 2267 cc pistons, the only other slight mod was the con rods on the 1900 are slightly wider at the big end journal, requiring a linishing each side,to enable them to slide down the new bore size, on the Mk2 1900cc engine the pistons have to be removed from inside the block not through the top,it appears the early con rods were stronger/larger than the later engines, assume the reason Rootes produced the 1900cc was to with the Tax imposed in the UK on maybe over 2litre engines, in the past we have fitted the Mk2 head to the Alpine engine,I think the combustion chambers were slightly smaller, giving a bit more Comp Ratio,Brian Gallagher has this head on his car, anyway good luck with Bills car and keep in mind ref the crank I have 1 or 2 cheers Mal Clark.

Thanks to WES and Bob for the information on full flow oil filters - I have another problem, my friend has a broken crankshaft on his MK. 1 Alpine. If we can't source another, can anyone advise whether the crank from a Humber Hawk will suit or maybe a MK. 3 Alpine?
  Regards,
  Alf in Australia
