Considerations:
a) if you are going to have to remove the engine and have significant work done to it, then find out what will be the incremental cost of having the work done while the head is already off and the engine is already in pieces.  
 
b) you may think that you are never going to sell the car (in your lifetime) but circumstances may change. You will certainly find that you will get a better price for it if the engine has had the valve seats hardened
 
c) peace of mind.  It's done. You don't have to worry.
