Hi Alf? ... My suggestion would be to put the car up on jackstands and turn the wheels through the entire range ( you should be able to grab a?tyre and turn it easily with your hands) and look for the tight spot.
something is most likey dry and binding, either one or more of the various joints, or the steering box itself could be the culprit, if you suspect the box, disconnect the track rod and try moving things.
The problem area should reveal itself.
Let us know what you find

Subject: [Sunbeam Talbot Email List] Alpine steering
Does anyone have any comments on improving Alpine steering? Mine is very heavy although I have spent nearly $600 dollars on wheel alignments. The car has Falken radials fitted which have 30 p.s.i air pressure - I am about to strip, refurbish and fit a Talbot 90 front end with the Alpine springs but I need a specification for camber,castor,toe-in etc. which one of you has found to be satisfactory and has improved the steering/handling etc.
Regards, Alf Scotting
