[Sunbeam Talbot Email List] Second gear

Don,
My MK3 does exactly the same - and has done ever since the gearbox was re-built (not by me I hasten to add!) I've always assumed that its just poor detenting of the selector, possibly due to a weak spring or a missing shim - page 90 plate B item 53 in the parts manual - but I've no intention of taking the gearbox out and stripping it just for that, it will be on my list of things to do when it HAS to come out! In the meantime, I just hang on to the gear lever (column change on mine) and I don't stay in 2nd gear any longer than I have to.
Not much help to you I know, but now you know you're not alone!
Cheers,
John Badger

Subject: [Sunbeam Talbot Email List] Second gear

Hello,
My mkIII with non-overdrive box has just started dropping out of second gear. At the moment it's when I'm pulling away on an incline or at low speed in that gear.
Various previous owners have told me that they had this problem but my car has been fine for the last three and a half years.
The question is; is this curable with the present availability of parts?
