On the subject of old cheapies needing a rebuild - have you seen Oz ebay 120269177476  ?
 
$300 (that's three hundred not three thousand) for a '48 Talbot
 
If you've already got one it's probably worth paying to transport this from Queensland, just for the parts.
(Wonder what the water pump's like .......)
