Hello everyone,

YEP, everyone who has tried it is sceptical at best, or totally
disappointed at worst, when it comes to spray can "chrome"..........

but...................

One of my other cars is a Porsche 356 - and for those of you who
are not aware of it, a whole lot of 356 club members are pretty
anal when it comes to their cars..............

So, I was REALLY surprised when, in the most recent issue of
our club magazine, there was a VERY, VERY FAVORABLE
article about chrome in a spray can...............!!

Basically what the article says can be summed up by saying:

that it is NOT chrome, but.........................

it then talks about all the various chrome paints that simply do not
work.............. saying that they are all just different kinds of "silver"
paints that look like silver paint! (that certainly has been my experience).

BUT, then it talks about one made by Duplicolor, that is simply
called "chrome"........... It says it is AMAZING stuff, is not cheap
(a small 5 oz. can costs as much as a regular 12 oz. can of quality
aerosol paint)..............

BUT, the good news is that it goes a LONG WAY........ and that
it is ENAMEL, which means it will withstand some handling, which most
silver paints will not, and it will stand temperatures around 300 degrees........

It dries pretty quickly, can be handled in just a couple hours, is reasy
to use, and again, goes a long way............... it should NOT be sprayed
on heavily - you should use lighter coats for a good result..........

The guy who wrote the article, and used this product on various parts from
his Porsche 911, says: "With the first squirt from the can of "Chrome", I
knew I was onto something. The shiny enamel really did look like bright
cad plating............". "........ spraying "chrome" over the silver paint I
had already applied, there was a striking contrast."

He suggests that for parts that might be subjected to the elements, that
a clear cover might help in the long run, though he suggests that you test
a piece first to see if the clear coat in any way dulls the "chrome" paint........

Anyway, guys, it seems there just might finally be a product out there
that provides good results.....................

I have not personally tried any of this, but since I am soon to begin
tearing my Alpine apart - and, in fact, doing some touchup work on my
E-type, I will be buying some soon.............

(Also, the same company makes a product called "GOLD" - which
apparently is the gold equivalent. The guy writing the article did not
comment on the gold other than to say he bought it).

any comments?
