[Staowners] PETROL FILLER PIPE

I'm just back from a 250 mile social rally around the Perigord area of
the Dordogne, well known for good food!!!

The sunny weather in the morning made for 'topless' motoring but a few
spots of rain persuaded me to put up the hood when we went to lunch. It
then started to rain, very heavily, and didn't stop all afternoon. After
getting home, I emptied the trunk of our clothes and found, in the left
hand depression deep in the back of the trunk, about 2" of water.

After taking out everything else including the carpet, I tried to find
where the water had come in .... it was simple. The boot floor where the
fuel tank filler pipe passes through the boot was wet and covered in
sand/small gravel. During the 3 hour drive back, the rear wheel must
have been throwing up spray and road dirt underneath at the point where
the petrol tank neck enters the trunk. I had had some damp in that area
before but thought it was the trunk seal letting in water. I had changed
this seal and all seemed well until today's atrocious conditions - we
were diverted twice for road flooding and often running through standing
water.

I looked in the parts supply book under Petrol Tank and item 13 page 144
is a grommet from the neck to the trunk floor. Having discovered how
essential this is, where can I get one - Bamforth or the Mal's contact
in Australia - has anyone made one up either with a rubber mat or a
piece of inner tube?

Any suggestions please

George
(decidedly damp in Cognac)
