hello Don,
I have just fitted new springs to the rear of my 90 saloon.
If you follow the instructions in the workshop manual (Rear spring laden
camber) which involves putting weights (158 kilo)on the floor at the
rear you will find that you get the correct ride height. It is to do
with weight not measurement above the wheel to wheel arch. I used old
springs to achieve the weight. They are roughly 28kilos each so are
pretty heavy! (unless you know three old fat ladies!!)When carrying out
this task all the silent block nus should be loose so the spring can
cantilever into position, then tighten up. The rear nuts have split pins
so be careful when you undo the nuts. I did not know they were there,
rusted away and impossible afterwards to put right ie drill out as body
work is in the way.
As to purchasing new ones I had mine made at Jones Springs tel 0121 568
7575 or www.jones-springs.co.uk and they were in imperial as original
not metric. I have used the car and all seems fine.
All the best
Rod Allen
