[Staowners] Fwd: Art Astor Collection being sold

Hi All.
There a lot of confusion over Alpine specials.
Only 78 produced 45 left hand drive and 43 right hand drive(sorry I can't lay my hands on the chassis no list at this time)
The dash on this Alpine is from a MK111.
There are no MK111 Alpine specials produced.
All Alpine specials have overdrive as standard.
Just for interest I have changed the original Solex 40P11 to a weber IDF 40 this has been fitted for two years on the Alpine special, as the original is so unreliable very pore miles to the gallon, only an average of 20 miles per gallon (approx 5lts).
But I am have to use a spacing plate to fix the weber to the original manifold.
I will be reproduce the special manifold and air filter but to do this I have to receive 20 orders ( 4 all ready requested) cost is approximately £ 340 for the manifold and airfilter, these will take a weber IDF 40 with all fixing bolts set in the correct place.
with my carburettor set with the connecting plate I can get an average of 28 miles per gallon and 30+ on long runs.
Hope this information is of some use.
Regards.

Hi Bob ... yes this is an interesting vehicle. the carb and intake manifold dose indeed appear to be a "special" (although without the proper air-cleaner)
I would like to see the serial / engine number as that would show weather it is indeed a special or not.
the coil is not mounted in the right spot for a special and I can't tell from the photo's if it has a tach, or the drive for one, or an overdrive, also the head should be painted red, all of those things could easily have been changed over the years, just like the floor shift conversion and the incorrect stitching on the seats

  Hi,

Bill Spear sent me this message about the Art Astor collection being sold off which includes a S-T Alpine with what looks like a dual throat carb. and manifold setup which might indicate it is an Alpine Special. Take a look if you are interested.

  Regards,
  Bob
