We had that car on our stand at the NEC last October - exactly in the state it had finished, complete with Gobi Desert sand! It was prepared for the event by STS and was heavily modified. It returned to STS immediately after the show for a complete body off restoration and preparation for the next Peking/Paris. The owner, Dave Roberts was accompanied on the rally by his daughter. They were stranded in the Gobi Desert for 3 days after a wishbone broke whilst they waited for a replacement to arrive. This wasn't their only problem but they did finish the rally.

mentioned before but when looking at pictures of the 2007 Peking-Paris :

I found a 1954 S-T Alpine car no. 104

That must have been some trip. I was unable to find any more details 
such as how well the car and crew had acquitted themselves.
