[Staowners] Gas/ Temp Gauge

Hi Sunbeamers . I'm in the process of removing my Gas/Temp gauge to send it in for repair. I'm having a very difficult time trying to get the sender bulb out of the block. I have removed the square fitting but the sender bulb seems to be frozen in the block. Any ideas on how to remove it would be greatly appreciated.
 On another note this 54 Alpine only has reinforcement coil for the temp line for about 12" behind the gauge and 18" before it goes into the engine block. The rest of the line(most of it) is unprotected bare tube. Is this correct? Thanks for any help. Regards  Ed
