[Staowners] TRUNK LID STUCK HELP NEEDED!

Hi Sunbeamer's --While installing a new trunk handle on my 54 Alpine, I somehow got the latch tongue under the striker. Try as I may, I cannot get the trunk lid to release. Seems like the latch has broken inside it's case and just turns without withdrawing the tongue from under the striker.

I notice a lot of Alpines have missing trunk handles . Is this a common problem?

Can you get to the hinges from the inside the car?

I have been thinking of drilling a hole from inside the spare wheel compartment to the striker area with the hope of pushing the latch tongue free of the striker. Can this work?

Any suggestions on how to go about opening my trunk will be much appreciated . Ed Esslinger Ozark, Alabama.
