Hi All,
I have a Mk 1 Alpine Sp. with Michelin 175x16 Taxi radials and a Mk 3
Saloon with 175x16 Dunlop Taxi radials. In both cases the spare fits
in the compartment but is a tight fit. My previous Mk 3 Sal. was a
rather too tight a fit but went in with some air let out. All it
meant was that I had to carry a pump and be prepared to use it! (The
one in the tool kit). In practice I carried one of those small 12v
electric ones so it was never a problem. Funny thing is that I can't
remember ever having a puncture in 42 years of Sunbeam use. (Other
cars - yes, but very few).
I mentioned years ago but I'll remind you while I'm at it that a
friend who worked at Michelin head office in London and supplied my
first set of "X's", not Taxi, told me to increase the pressures by
about 6psi and set the toe-in to zero. Since then I've been quite
happy with the result, still heavy at very low speed but not at high
speed and steers in a straight line when required! Unheard of on
cross-plies.
Regards,
Terry Poole, UK.
