[Staowners] Igniton warning lamp question

To All-  My 54 Alpine is missing the ignition warning lamp. I looked up the number in the parts book and it calls for a 2.5V lamp. Could this be true? Is this a misprint?  The workshop manual also calls for this lamp. (Lucas 970 2.5V .5W) Later Alpines 60's with generators use 12V lamps .The circuits look identical to me. 
  Unless the 54 Alpine uses a generator with a higher resistance to ground, I don't think the 2.5V lamp will last more than a few minuets. Regards Ed
