at the S.T.A.R and other matters page and scroll down, there is a 
detailed explanation of the Kneer gear change mechanism and adjustment. 
 From experience, I have found that the difference between  being able 
to select all gears or not getting into either reverse or 3rd/4th is a 
question of  a millimetre of adjustment on the cable from the  lever to 
the g/box.  Once adjusted, firmly locked and treated with respect, it 
works fine for ever .... just keep non-Kneer drivers away from you gear 
change!!!!
