I made mine from cork & used Hylomar.The original was cork.

Steve, The origanal gasket was cork.You can still get sheet cork at most auto
parts stores.it's pretty straighforward to cut out a new gasket. Shouldn't need
to use a sealer. You can also make a gasket from one of the newer composite
gasket materials also obtainable at the parts store.  Pete
