[Staowners] ENGINE NUMBERS, CARBS AND TANKS

May I ask the group whether there is a listing somewhere (on the web
perhaps) of the engine numbers used by the different models of the S-T
90 family? I recently took the carb off my Mk 1 Alpine as Alan Orpet
kindly offered to check it over as it was running very rich and was
unadjustable. He found that the body was from a Sunbeam Rapier (early
one?) but the same as the Alpine and in good condition. That left him
looking for the jets and emulsion tube which were not right. Bamforth's
sent him a 'shot' one for him to extract the innards but it turned out
to be from a Humber.

The matter is further complicated because when the car came from the
U.S. in 1991, the then owner put in a different engine to get it
running. The original engine (matching the body number and which I still
have), is A3012989LRX. The engine that presently sits in the car is
A3005847H50. Can anyone tell me which S-T model this second engine comes
from as it might help Alan in his quest for carb. parts.

This winter I also need to drop the petrol tank out and clean it and/or
epoxy it as it let me down badly on the STAR Alpine Adventure. I have
heard of drastic measures like cutting it in half and sand blasting
before metal coating - any views on the best way to proceed? From the
pump to the car is fine - I suppose I should also clean out any gum in
the pipe from the carb to the tank.

Thanks everyone
