Hi Everyone,
This ST for sale is clearly not an Alpine of our vintage or even
a Series Alpine (mention of a 1725cc engine) In fact you will be all
pleased to hear that it is not a 90 either! What you are all looking at
is a picture of a very pretty Sunbeam Talbot 80 the car which begat the
90! The key points are the headlamps are sited lower in the front of
each wing and truly do make the wing look a bit like an aircraft fuel
tank. The headlamps were raised to conform with legislation in of all
places, youve guessed it America. The second giveaway are the two
spotlights in the parts of the wing which subsequently became air
intakes. The bumper is of course an earlier style from the 80 but
transferred into the MkI and MarkII/early IIA.
The engine should be an asthmatic 1200cc, beam front axle leaf
springs all round proper pre war stuff in a 'modern' body! I would
probably guess that someone has transplanted a later Series Alpine
1725cc engine into it (it would be easy almost bolt straight on) and
therefore causing confusion to the seller, its a Sunbeam Talbot 80
powered by a Sunbeam Alpine Series engine!
                                                    Hope you enjoyed my
reasoning and keep driving!
