Hi all, recieved Kevins, comments on Alpine on Ebay,I didn"t see the final price it went for, but,my reply,is I would fully endorse Kevins comments of his thinking of what an Alpine is worth or what it should be worth, over many years I have owned, collected and restored many Sunbeam of all, models,I have owned 4 Talbot Alpines and twice as many Tigers, Here in Australia,we seem to attract higher prices for our Classic cars than anywhere else, certainly where Sunbeams are concerned,I have seen fully restored Tiger go for $18,000 in the 1980s to over $90,000 today,I personally have sold two Mk2 Tigers one for 85K and the other for 90K,and only 3 months ago a mk1 Tiger change hands for $93K these figures are Aussie dollars $90k is about $85K US,a Mk2 I am restoring for the current owner, is willing to Spend $90K on the restoration, making the car well into $130K, these are fantastic prices, but keep in mind, the restorations are the best possible, and anyone who has completed a fully serious restoration knows the hundreds of hours involved.along with the 10s of thousands in parts, parts alone for one of my Mk2 was nudging $50K, if you don't believe,me get a quote on a full restoration on a Talbot Alpine body off restoration, If you can find anyone game enough to give it a go, not many would attempt it, I do and I think I am mad,but I do get a lot a pleasure seeing it transform into a thing of beauty, On to Alpines ,we seem to have a fair share of these great cars, and the 10 or 15 I know are in first class order, and two of them owe the owners 6 figures for each restoration, these are superb cars, My own experiance, I sold my work prepared Alpine for $75K and lost a great deal of money, but needed funds fairly quickly,You couldn't begin to know how much I regretted that, ,and another Alpine had an offer of $60K refused, in Australia today a restored Alpine would realise between $60 to $75,000,and I forcast upwards of that in the future, there is a big surge in Australian Musle car prices, they have gone through the roof,Holdens and Fords, and Chryslers especially, some Ford Falcon, GT HOs have sold at Auctions heading towards !/2 million, one such car went for $680,000,to a Queensland buyer. I spoke to a well know Auctioneer, who indicated that us baby boomers 50+ age bracket have a unlimitted supply of funds to spend on toys, and thats what is happening, but I think a few people will get there fingers burnt so to speak.,the prices have to come back, to a more realistic figure,in a while, any way people, this is my story on this side of the world, dont be afraid to make your Sunbeam how you want it, do it properly enjoy it, we don't know whats around the corner, and remember,we are here for a good time, not a long time, so have what you want, good luck and bye for now. Mal Clark.
