[Staowners] water pumps

HI ALL,
            I have some time off so I thought I would rebuild the water pump on my 53 alpine, I had bought a kit last year, my question is in regards to the impeller, the original has 2 holes drilled in it, one on each side of the center shaft hole, the new brass ? one does not, anyone know why?  Also the surface on the old impeller is a little worn on the inside surface where the seal rides, which one should I use ???     thanks            Kevin
