Interesting. According to the "wheel and tyre bible" http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html 175 is probably a touch to wide for a 4.5 inch rim (there's an ideal width calculator about 2/3rd the way down this long page) but it should be OK. I know someone with a Super Snipe with tyres 2 sizes too wide for the rim and he tells me it feels 'like driving on balloons'
Cheers, Vic

Subject: [Staowners] 16 Inch Radials
Greetings All and Happy Easter
I have fitted the following tyres to my Sunbeam MKIII Saloon
and thought that others might have an interest.
The tyres are marked as follows:
Bridgestone Dueler H/T 684
175/80R16 91Q
Tubeless Steel Belted Radial M+ S
K9602 684 B Z
Made in Japan
EL PB (CHA359)
There is also a red spot marked on the side wall.
The tyres (20 only) were specially imported into Australia by Bridgestone Adelaide and I was lucky to get five of them
shipped up to Darwin at AUS$175.00 each fitted and balanced.
They are fitted to my original 4.5 inch rims and look good.
They have transformed the handling and driveability by an order of magnitude.
I inflate them to 34 PSI all round. Rather oversteer than understeer.
The spare was a bit tight fitting into its storage compartment but
with a bit of gentle spreading by a squat hydraulic jack and
some wood load spreaders, its fits nicely without damaging the
boot opening or the fuel tank.
Hope this is of interest and helpfull in the increasingly
difficult search for tyres.
Regards for now,
Rowan Charrington.
