Ian, hi am I right in thinking you told me many years ago your Alpine had a hardtop fitted.never seen any pictures with same, was it a made item, or available at the time,,
I see what you mean ref Stirling cars being cement mixer dealers, they must have used them to mix the body filler for all those Sunbeams, they professionally repaired, by saying that they were responsible, for me today being involved in Sunbeams,I even met a wonderful lady, and we are getting married in 4 weeks time through the Sunbeam Car Club, Pams husband Mike passed away 6 weeks before my wife did in 2003,so we do have the Sunbeam name alot to thank for,
           all the best Mal Clark.

  Gooday Guy,

Interesting how Stirling Cars got into at least two Alpine Specials

and a Works Team Car: wonder who or what the connection was

  there ?

Great to have the details you have stated regarding production numbers

and colours. The one I had ( PRW 950) was originally supplied to

an owner in the American Forces in Germany. The colour was Ivory.

This information was supplied by a contact I made in the Rootes/ Chrysler

Group in the 1970s. Devonshire House, Piccadilly handled the export

  orders if I remember rightly.

The Chassis / engine number prefix "LRX" identified it as a left hand

drive model, equipped differently to the standard Alpine Model.

For years the figure quoted was " only 75 ever made" then later

People were talking about 120 . If you take the 6 team cars out, leaving 80,

That would be nearer the mark.

  Great information. Thank you.

  Ian Moist,.

  Hi All.

In 2002 I purchased a 1954 Alpine special PNE 7 which had been in Monmouth for many years, this car had also been restored by Stirling cars.

The off hand side had been repaired with new sections, but they had only stitch welded, they left the welds un-ground. Then it was covered with filler and sprayed in Mustard yellow.

On one door there was over 28mm of deep filler.

Although the car was legally on the road you could but your hand up through the sill to the middle of the A & B posts.

Now to the interesting items for all you special owners.

There were only 86 produced, 40 right hand drive and 46 left-hand drive cars, All are MK1's There were no MK111's produced.

Paint colours were, 47 Alpine mist,18 coronation red,17 ivory, 3 sapphire blue and 1 black.

6 of these were Works team cars.

There was 1 special Saloon (not included in the 86), but there are no details on this car.

Of these I have records of 24 surviving, 14 right hand drive.

If you think you have a Alpine special or you definitely have one, please let me know to up date the records.

Hope this is of interest to you all.

   Guy Woodhams
