thanks for that. I'm guessing the lid handle is correct, and the latch underneath, but the trim around it appears to be incorrect. Can anyone send me a photo of what it should look like ?

Bill, No the boot lid escutcheon is not correct. The Mk1 Alpine had a triangular chrome base. The latch was not chromed. The Mk111 had a more eliptical base and a flatter profile handle. neither one should be pop riveted. Sounds like you have an "inventive" repair.

My MK1 Alpine boot lid has a circular trim around the boot lid handle.
It is pop riveted onto the lid skin and sprayed body colour. Is this right ?
Or should it be chrome and fastened with chrome screws ? Should the
locking mechanism on the underside of the lid be chrome also ?
