Hi All,

The original leather was not high quality, but down to a price, hence  
it resembled cardboard, didn't stretch much and was quite thick, all  
of which made is suitable for car use. Even the "grain' was  
artificially applied to the "split" hide which allowed consistency of  
surface finish. Connolly's car grade leather used to be called  
"Vaumol" or something similar.

Best of luck with the covering, they were quite sophisticated inside,  
not just a loose-cover outer.
