Hello Bob and everyone, its been a fair while since I have had contact with you all,I took almost a year off to build a new house, which is just about finished, we have moved in and enjoying it,
Back to the Sunbeams,I have sold (Very reluctantly) my works car at auction, everyone said what a great price it achieved, but truth is I lost a fair bit, anyway it went towards the house,as well as a few other later Sunbeams ie Tigers, I still have 1 Tiger, and a proper Sunbeam 53 Alpine, which I purchased about 3 years ago it was part restored, I put it in storage for a while, until recently,I moved it into my workshop and started doing a few things, it has been ( not too good) sprayed silver, which I will change to possible Saphire blue, long story short, had a request from a man wanting a Talbot Alpine,so I said that this one is availible to buy, again about to lose on the deals, but a few things need finishing on the house, after 5 weeks of the man checking everything on the car. and bringing different people up to inspect, still not getting an answer, I said to him the longer he leaves the decission, the more likely I would change my mine on the sale, it came to a head when he said he would buy the Alpine if I throw in the MK3 Talbot sedan I have, wasn't happy with that.as it is totally original, and I want parts off it anyway, saying all this, he found out he couldn't raise the money until March, I can tell you I was SO relieved, so it now is mine for ever, I have restarted work on it , back to a rolling shell, and have restored all the dash and gauges, back to Ivory wheel /switches etc,and looking good, what I did do before all the possible sale was acquire a 5 speed Toyota Celica gearbox, and have one of our club guys make up all the components to fit it to the Alpine,Bellhousing/mounts, flywheel and clutch, etc, we have I think 4 or 5 Talbot and Alpines fitted with this box, and is a dream to use, seeing I will keep this car for my retirement, I want to make it as user friendly as possible, ie retractable seat belts, disc brakes ???, and maybe the MK3 Engine, Power steering for us older owners, would be nice, what about air conditioning, looking into all this, I have owned about 5 Alpines over the years, as said I want to keep this one for a long time, so as much as I restore all my cars to stock original, this one will be restored to suit me, sorry guys, my knees and wrists are worn out all the years of being a mechanic,/ restorer/ builder etc. I will enjoy this car, back soon. Mal Clark, ( Downunder)
